Like many other people from one of his favourite cities I admired and respected Tony Benn. He was much more than a great left wing Labour movement orator and helped and supported many causes in the pursuit of social justice and world peace. One of the lesser known causes he involved himself in were efforts to secure one final reunion bash for the Liverpool Love Lane pensioners in 2006. Read on!

How would you have got by on 8oz of sugar a week? That’s what the measure was before de-rationing on 26/09/1953 7 months after the Stanley Matthews Cup Final! Should it be rationed again on Health Grounds?

Serendipitously I’ve come across an essay which relates directly to the “twitters” I’ve twittered over here on holiday in NYC! In 2001 I was working for and with a friend and former student, Michael J Boyle, who had set up a very successful Liverpool Black Roots course at Liverpool University, attracting many African-American students for its 3 week duration. He bought me in as the SUGARMAN!

Jim Smith one of the film stars on our site’s story of the Boys and Girls from the Whitestuff has passed away. He was 102 years of life.

Earlier blogs document the drama of those redundancy notices but by January 22nd 2006 Tate & Lyle was itself issued with a 90 day notice! What would its responses be?
