There was a good deal of material which I did not manage to upload yesterday because of “problems” outlined in the main text. That included the Hansard account of the Parliamentary debate, but now that I’m sitting in a warm Public Library in Sunderland opposite Sunderland General Hospital and around the corner from my mother in law’s house where we are staying for the weekend, I can upload and blog for as long as Gail allows me.

In the last blog we found out that the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher did not do delegations, especially those from the Congress of Merseyside. What were the responses back home in Liverpool to such a snub? What would be the social and economic costs of eliminating a prominent Liverpool landmark?

Mike Greenall started his sugar industry apprenticeship as a 16 year old in the month that the Beatles “stormed” Shea Stadium, the legendary home of the New York Mets. He wrote to me last week and kindly attached “a couple of souvenirs of the Yellows House” a timely reminder of the arts of the sugar boiler like our own Bobby Austin and of the vitally important experiences and memories of PROCESS apprentices like Mike.
OK that’s the Lane above, but what are the two instruments below used for?

Leonard Lyle, was more than just the powerful chairman of Tate & Lyle and friend of Winston Churchill and Brendan Bracken. His pedigree of Lord Lyle of Westbourne translated very easily into “Lord Cube” and journalists hungry for copy were amazed by the mounting success of his Mr Cube anti-nationalisation campaign. On December 8th 1949 he traversed north to Tate & Lyle’s spiritual home and left this website with a PRIMARY SOURCE from THE TIMES.
